One of the best soil conditioners you can get for your garden is seaweed. To some people that may not only sound weird, but even  unbelievable. The truth is, that it's old news. Very old news. Seaweed has been used for centuries in gardens around the world. These days it's becoming more and more  popular as people are looking for alternative natural products in preference to chemicals based products.

Did you ever consider watering your plants with seawater? I guess you didn't. The salty water would ruin your soil, kill your plants and spoil the fun. That's why a lot of gardners are reluctant in using seaweeds as a soil conditioner. They shouldn't. I'm here to tell you that seaweed has proven to be a very powerful soil conditioner (also a  good plant stimulant) and in many tests has worked better than some of the best manufactured soil conditioners that are commonly sold on the market. Seaweed is particularly good for people who are reluctant to use any types of chemicals in the garden, as seaweed is natural, completely safe for your plants, your kids and even your pets.

You are a very happy gardener if you live near the beach. You can get Mother Natures Home Made Conditioner for free. All you have to do is get out there and collect the weeds when it gets washed up on the beach, or alternatively from the surface of the water when you are out in a boat.

Don't feel left behind if you don't live near a beach. You can still get the benefits of seaweed in your garden by buying dried seaweed in your favorite garden center. By doing so you can be assured of the quality and consistency of the product and you can expect results while having the convenience of it being readily available when needed by being able to store it until required. And to sweeten your deal even more: the seaweed you pick up at your local garden center, has already been prepared in a state that allows you to spread it evenly throughout the garden.

Ok, I'm cheap so I admit: getting your seaweed for free is always better then having to pay for it. But check your garden center (or do a search online) and you'll see the  guys sell seaweed in very affordable packs. And maybe -just maybe- you are even better off not living near the beach and having to pay for your seaweed. Because there is a huge (HUGE!) added benefit: the seaweed sold in the stores doesn't smell as much as the seaweed that you would collect from the beach.
